Water Sources and Purification

The Rule of Three
When you are out in the woods, well, when you are out anywhere, the Rule of 3 states:
You can survive 3 minutes with out air, 3 days without water and 3 weeks without food.
Finding water and being able to make it safe to drink it is very important. The simplest way to have good water is to bring it with you. But this isn’t always possible. Boiling water is the easiest if you have the means. Bringing a water filter system is great, light weight and you can drink from pretty much anything but ocean water.
Tips to make water potable:
Boil it for at least 1 minute, or longer if it is cloudy. Chlorine bleach or other water purify tablets also work.
One trick if you don’t have a way to boil water is to make a small bowl from some bark from a birch tree. Start your fire and heat up some rocks, once they are very hot add them to your water for a few minutes. The water will bubble and boil.
Some people have tried straining water through moss and through multiple layers of sand and rocks. But it is always best to boil it to kill harmful bacteria. Getting sick can lead to dire consequences depending on your situation.
Collecting rain water from large leaves or if you set up your own tarp system is a great way to get clean water…but, not being a professional in this area I am going to add some important links and videos that you can watch to learn more: Enjoy
